* Unrated players may only win 50% of the prize fund unless they play in the U1800 Section or the Open Section where must pay the full entry fee and are eligible for the full prize fund.  

In the event of a tie, plaque winners will be determined by USCF-recommended computer tiebreaks.

 BYES

 A 1/2-point bye is available any Round (no limit to the number of byes you may take). However, you must advise the tournament director and commit to the bye prior to the start of Round 3.

 ELECTRONIC NOTATION DEVICES 
The only three electronic chess notation devices which are approved for and allowed in a USCF-rated tournament are the Monroi, the e-Notate PDA, and Plycount. You may use any one of these devices, but the device must remain on top of the table at all times (you may not hold it under the table in your lap or under the tablecloth). The tournament director has the right to request to see your notation device at any time before, during or after your game.

 ON-SITE REGISTRATION

 You may register on-site from 12 noon until 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, and on Saturday, Dec. 27, from 8 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Once registration is closed at 8:30 a.m. you will receive a 1/2-pt. bye for Round 1. No checks accepted at site (cash or credit cards only).

 Scholastic (K-12) Individual Chess Championship

 Friday, December 26, 2014
 OPEN TO STUDENTS FROM K-12 - First Round at 11 a.m.
Scholastic Sections:         OPEN         U900        U500/unrated
Format:  4SS, G/30, d5 - USCF Rated (4 rounds will be played using Swiss-Sys computer pairings; each opponent has 30 minutes to complete his/her game; digital chess clocks, if available, should be set to Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay for each move). Chess clocks are not required for players in the U500 section. 
NOTE:  This is a USCF-rated tournament; each player will need to have a current USCF membership.  For membership rates, please scroll down below. USCF membership may be purchased on site at the tournament. 
Site Location: Hilton New Orleans Airport, 901 Airline Dr., Kenner, LA (hotel is directly across from the New Orleans International Airport). 
Prizes:  Trophies to the top 5 in each section; Medals to all non-trophy winners.

Miscellaneous info: 
Players should bring their chess boards and clocks, if available. All sections except U500 will be required to play with a clock. 
USCF Tournament rules (i.e., touch move rule) will be enforced for all sections. 
If a player knows chess notation, it is highly recommended that he notate his games. Individual score sheets will be available to the players. 
Chess Vendor (Cajun Chess) will be on site. 

Awards ceremony will be held immediately after the last round.

 OPEN TO ALL - First Round at 8 p.m.

Format:  9SS, G/5, d0. USCF-Rated using Blitz ratings;  9 single rounds will be played using the Swiss-Sys pairing program with each opponent having 5 minutes to complete his/her game).  Number of sections will be determined on site by numer of participants.  This is not an elimination tournament.  Prizes will be based on the number of total points in the final standings. 

Time: 8:00 p.m.  Registration for this event closes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Entry Fee $15 if received by December 20th; $20 thereafter and at site.
