*Unrated players may only win 50% of the prize fund unless they play in the OPEN Section where they must pay the full entry fee and are eligible for the full prize fund.

BYES

U1800 & U1400 SECTIONS
Players in the U1800 and U1400/Unr. Sections may take up to three 1/2-point byes for any round.  You must commit to the byes prior to the start of Round 4.  After Round 4 begins, no further byes may be taken, and any byes that you have committed to may not be rescinded.
OPEN SECTION
Players in the OPEN Section may take up to three 1/2-point byes for any round EXCEPT the last round (Round 7) due to FIDE regulations.  If you need to leave prior to Round 7 you will have to take a zero-point bye for that round.  You must commit to the byes prior to the start of Round 4.  After Round 4 begins no further byes may be taken, and any byes that you have committed to may not be rescinded.

 ENTRY FEES

$75, if received by 12/20; $85 thereafter and at site.

$55 for Unrated players in the U1400 if received by 12/20; $65 thereafter and at site.

$55 for Juniors (under age 19 and playing in U1400) if received by 12/20; $65 thereafter and at site.

Re-entry is available until the start of Round 4 in the U1800 and U1400 sections only. 
No Re-entry allowed in the OPEN section due to FIDE ratings.

ELECTRONIC NOTATION DEVICES

There are three electronic chess notation devices which are approved for and allowed in a USCF-rated tournament:  the Monroi, the e-Notate PDA, and the Plycount.  You may use any of these devices, but the device must remain on top of the table at all times (you may not hold it under the table in your lap or under the tablecloth).  The tournament director has the right to request to see your notation device at any time before, during or after your game.

*  "Unr." in the U500/Unr. section means those players who have a USCF membership but have not yet played a rated game in order to have received a rating.  After playing 4 rounds in this tournament, an "Unrated" player will receive a provisional USCF national rating.


Format

4SS, G/30  d5

USCF-Rated (4 rounds will be played using Swiss-Sys computer pairings; each opponent has 30 minutes to complete his/her game; digital chess clocks, if available, should be set to Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay for each move for each player). Chess Clocks are RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED FOR THE U500/Unr. section.

On-Site Registration

 You may register on site from 8:30 - 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26.  Once registration is closed at 9:15 a.m. you will receive a 1/2-point bye for Round 1 and will be paired for all later rounds.  No checks accepted at site (cash or credit cards only).

Round 1 starts at 10:00 a.m.  Other rounds immediately follow.

 Miscellaneous Info

  Players should bring their chess boards and clocks, if available. 

All sections except U500/Unr. will be required to play with a clock.

USCF-Tournament rules (i.e., touch move rule) will be enforced for all sections.

If a player knows chess notation, it is highly recommended that he notate his games.  Individual score sheets will be available to the players.

Chess Vendor (Cajun Chess) will be on site.

Awards ceremony will be held immediately after the last round.

Please bring a sweater or a light jacket as sometimes hotel ballrooms get very cold.
